Get involved at your workplace as a union representative

In many workplaces, IG Metall members elect union representatives. They serve as the link between employees on the job, the works council, and IG Metall. We support our union representatives with information, advice, and training opportunities. Our union representatives also include works council members, representatives for employees with severe disabilities, and youth and apprentice representatives who are members of IG Metall.

Get Involved Without Holding Office or Outside Your Workplace

But you can also get involved in IG Metall without holding an “office.” In many companies, for example, there are “action groups” made up of IG Metall members who work toward common goals. Many companies also have elected bargaining committees that prepare for collective bargaining rounds and formulate demands to be presented to the employer. You can also get involved outside the workplace, for example in so-called AGAs (extra-company union work groups) or working groups for seniors and the unemployed, as well as serving as an examiner, test developer, or appeals officer in vocational training and continuing education.
